Gardening in Your Defensible Space Workshop
The Details
On December 14, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. come learn how to create a fire-wise and sustainable garden that supports biodiversity in the 100’ defensible space around your home. This 3 hour workshop will help you understand appropriate plant selection, placement and maintenance recommendations that preserve and even add wildlife habitat, while taking care to keep your property and neighborhood fire-wise and sustainable. The workshop format will provide plenty of time for questions.

Mimi Enright: Program Manager, UC Cooperative Extension Master Garnener Program of Sonoma County,
April Owens: Executive Director of the Habitat Corridor Project; Horticulture Chairperson, California Native Plant Society - Milo Baker Chapter,
Ellie Insley: Landscape Architect, Natural Habitat Restoration Specialist, Board of Directors Sonoma Ecology Center will cover the following subjects:
- Recommendations for fire-wise landscaping design and maintenance in the 0-5', 5-30' and 30-100' defensible space zones, appropriate to the local native plant community
- A practical understanding of what it means to be sustainable in an ever changing California climate
- Practical ways to incorporate sometimes conflicting information, to design a biodiverse, water- and fire-wise landscape that saves energy and is beautiful too *Resources for how to move forward with your landscape and community
